Paul Mills. the President of the American Kenpo Karate International (AKKI). has taken the best ideas and all of the principles from Ed Parker's American Kenpo Karate system and has expanded them with an innovative approach.
The martial arts system of Kenpo Karate taught at each affiliated studio is commonly referred to as "AKKI Kenpo." It is a system that is internationally known as a practical and effective method of self-defense that has thousands of practitioners throughout the world.
Mills credits Parker for what he taught him - and that is how to be a thinker. He is proud of his lineage and respects his instructor so much that he and his students have tried to pick up where his instructor so abruptly left off after his passing in 1990.
The foundation for the changes are based on logic. Each change and enhancement made was a direct result of thousands of hours of experience. experimentation and dissection of Mr. Parker's system. It is not done on a whim or changed for no significant reason - for that would serve no purpose. The changes take into account many perspectives when being developed.
AKKI Kenpo includes many new empty hand. stand up grappling. ground fighting. knife (single & double) and stick (single & double) curriculum that was un-addressed formally in Mr. Parkers scripted system.
One of the biggest differences in the way people execute their actions in the AKKI. when compared to other associations and groups. is the use of the Master Key Rhythmic Timing Patterns. All of the updates and new material in the AKKI include the use of these explosive timing patterns.
The AKKI's curriculum also follows Mr. Mills philosophy that Structure Governs Function. These changes and updates have made this brand of American Kenpo a powerful and modern system of self-defense to learn and study.
